On May 28th, in the philosophical club “Loft” in the Moscow Centre for Consciousness Studies, a round-table discussion was held on “ David Chalmers’s theory of Consciousness”.
The round table was attended by Professor Vadim Vasiliev, Professor Robert Howell, PhD Dmitriy Volkov, PhD Andrey Veretennikov, PhD Diana Gasparyan, postgraduate students, graduate students from the programs “Philosophy of Mind” and “Philosophy of Language”, undergraduate students from the Moscow State University philosophy faculty and David Charmers himself who appeared via Skype from Sweden.
This event was held to mark the long awaited publication of the Russian translated version of D. Chalmers’s “The Conscious Mind”, which is considered one of greatest treatises of modern times on the mind. A variety of discussions were held during this event: from conceptual, historical and philosophical to the most informal (such as about Chalmers’s life in New York and his contacts with Russian philosophers). David Chalmers unexpectedly came under a barrage of questions and expressed his pleasure with the publishing of “The Conscious mind” in Russian.
