Writing the Book of the World. Scientific seminar of the Center for Consciousness Studies

9 January, 2022

The seminar is dedicated to the metaontological project of Theodore Sider, which he outlines in his work "Writing the Book of the World".

Sider tries to show that ontology should describe the structure of the world, and not investigate what is necessary in the world, what is in the world, and which of the representations of the world is true. For an ontologist, truth is not enough: the book of the world written by him should not only contain all true judgments about it, but also the terms used in these judgments should, as Sider says, sort of cut reality into natural forms. To solve this difficult task, Sider relies on the metaphysics of the second half of the twentieth century, developing the ideas of W.W. O. Quine and D. Lewis. You can find out how successfully he succeeds in this from the recording of the seminar.

Speakers: Evgeny Loginov and Polina Khanova.

Participants: V. Vasilyev, A.Tanyushina, A. Besedin, A. Mertsalov, A. Veretennikov, N. Mkrtchyan.

The seminar is also available on our podcast.
