Our Obligations to the Other Animals. Scientific seminar of the Center for Consciousness Studies

9 January, 2022

This seminar is dedicated to the book "Fellow Creatures" by Harvard University Professor Christine Korsgaard, who is primarily known for her work on Kant's philosophy. The main theme of the book is the moral status of animals. Kosgaard tries to show that there is no difference of such a nature between a person and conscious living beings that would allow for differences in moral terms or, in other words, to establish a moral hierarchy at the top of which a person would be. Here Kosgaard actively uses the concept of Kant's categorical imperative, which is also applicable to animals. The specifics of this approach and its prospects were discussed during this seminar.

Keynote speakers: Ph.D. A.Besedin, Ph.D. N. E.Loginov.

Participants of the seminar (in order of presentation): A.Kuznetsov, D.Ivanov, A.Veretennikov, A.Mertsalov, S.Tanyushina, N.Mkrtchyan, O.Cherkashina, V.Vasilyev.
