Doing philosophy. Scientific seminar of the Center for Consciousness Studies

9 January, 2022

The first seminar of the new season of our seminars is dedicated to the book "Doing Philosophy" by the famous Oxford epistemologist Timothy Williamson. This book is a kind of guide to how to do philosophy, as well as an answer to the question of contrasting the reliability of philosophical and scientific methods. In it, Williamson examines the main philosophical methods related to common sense, argumentation, thought experiments, abduction and his own idea of building models. He wants to show that philosophy as a desk discipline is not so far from science. In fact, traditional "armchair" philosophical methods play a key role in science, on the narrow understanding of which its opposition to philosophy is based.

The speakers of the seminar are Vadim Valeryevich Vasilyev, PhD, and Anton Kuznetsov, PhD.

Participants of the discussion: A.Besedin, E.Loginov, A.Pavlov, V.Semenov, A.Limitovsky, A.Tanyushina, E.Borisov.
